Linnaeus’ Hammarby

Carl Linnaeus' summer farm

Linnaeus' Hammarby preserves an authentic 18th century milieu which few other Swedish manor-houses do. The small estate, was bought by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. He wanted a farm on the countryside where he could spend the summers together with his family, away from the unhealthy quarters of Uppsala. Today the manor reflects the private life of Linnaeus as well as his scientific work. Beneath the trees in Linnaeus’ former orchard, shade-tolerant plants from Linnaeus’ day form rich carpets between the winding paths.

The manor is only open for guided tours, and is temporarily closed May-June 2024. There are at least four tours a day. Groups of more than 10 people have to book a private guide. Written information is available in English, French, German, Spanish and Russian.

The café is open Friday–Sunday in May, Tuesday–Sunday June–August and Saturday–Sunday in September.

Getting to Linnaeus’ Hammarby: Bicycle, own car, or bus 102 or 186 (Uppsala-Knivsta). From the bus stop it's a 1,7 km walk.
